Federal immigration judges fired by the Trump administration are filing appeals, pursuing legal action and speaking out in an unusually public campaign to fight for their jobs.

Civil rights groups sued the Trump administration on Wednesday in a bid to stop the government’s policy of allowing Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to arrest undocumented migrants who show up for immigration hearings at courthouses.

The legal action citing the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution comes days after an off-duty Customs and Border Protection officer was shot in the face and leg during an ambush robbery attempt in an Upper Manhattan park, allegedly by a pair of undocumented migrants with previous arrests.
