U.S. officials say Department of Government Efficiency staffers were at the Pentagon on Tuesday and receiving lists of the military's probationary employees.

The military's services handed in lists of the employees hired within the last year to the Trump administration.

The Pentagon is sending Trump administration officials the names of probationary workers who could be targeted in an upcoming round of federal employee cuts, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Trump administration has halted the firings of hundreds of federal employees who were tasked with working on the nation’s nuclear weapons programs.

The IRS will lay off roughly 7,000 workers in Washington and around the country beginning Thursday, a person familiar with the plans told the Associated Press. The layoffs affect probationary employees with roughly one year or less of service at the agency and largely include workers in compliance departments,

The mass firing of IRS employees will impact those who have been working at the agency for less than a year, and will leave the agency 6,000 short during their busiest season
