As college football's conference championship weekend unfolds on Saturday and teams await the final College Football Playoff bracket to settle, the LSU Tigers are just waiting to figure out which bowl game they will play in.
Penn State will return to Yankee Stadium for a potential bowl game that the preseason rankings suggested as a playoff possibility. Instead, the Nittany Lions will play in their second Pinstripe Bowl potentially against an ACC opponent that also was a preseason top-five team.

Penn State football playing in Pinstripe Bowl
The Nittany Lions are going bowling after being selected to play in the Pinstripe Bowl in Yankee Stadium on December 27. The program announced that the Nittany Lions will face an ACC opponent in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium at 12 p.
Iowa has played an SEC opponent in its last four bowl games. The Hawkeyes are 1-3 during that span, which includes a split with Kentucky. Iowa has fallen in its last two bowl appearances. Two seasons ago, the Hawkeyes were routed by Tennessee 35-0. Last season, Missouri defeated Iowa 27-24.
Terry Smith, who has served as interim coach since Oct. 12, will coach Penn State in the game. He has agreed to remain on the staff under new coach Matt Campbell, who will be introduced Monday. Clemson, Duke, Louisville and Pitt are among the possible opponents from the ACC.
On Friday, K-State athletic director Gene Taylor said the Wildcats will wait to discuss their options with the Big 12 before they make a decision.
