The defending U.S. Open champion won’t be around for the weekend. Bryson DeChambeau, the winner last year at Pinehurst who also had top-five finishes at this year’s Masters and PGA Championship, missed the cut Friday at Oakmont after a second-round 7-over 77,

Phil Mickelson, who is potentially playing in his final U.S. Open, was among the most painful missed cuts after closing with two double bogeys on his final four holes to finish at 8 over, one off the cut number. The six-time runner-up at the U.S. Open had plenty of company in misery at Oakmont, including the notable names below.

DeChambeau shot 7-over 77 in the second round and became the first defending champion to miss the cut since 2020.
