A second person has died as a result of North Dakota wildfires and Williams County has declared a state of emergency as fires continue to burn Edgar Coppersmith, 47, of Tioga, was identified Tuesday as the second fire-related fatality.

Gov. Doug Burgum is giving thanks to the many fire departments that jumped into action after at least six wildfires broke out in western North Dakota over the weekend. He toured some of the damage and says there are at least twenty different agencies that are helping out.

A second person has died from wildfires that destroyed tens of thousands of acres in west North Dakota. Williams County Sheriff’s Office Detective Daniel Ward confirmed on Tuesday, Oct. 8, that a person who was injured last weekend near Ray died after being flown to a hospital in Denver.

In a Facebook post updated at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services gave updates on fires still burning in McKenzie and Williams counties.
