Connor McDavid scored his first goal of this Stanley Cup Final in Game 5, only after he and the Edmonton Oilers fell behind 3-0 on the way to getting pushed to the brink by the defending champion Florida Panthers.

The NHL commemorated a rare postseason milestone on Saturday as the Florida Panthers went on to beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-2 in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final. Sam Bennett scored the Panthers’ second goal of the day in the first period of Florida’s win, one that moved the Panthers to within one win of back-to-back championships.

Following their 5-2 win Saturday in Game 5 of their Stanley Cup Final rematch against the Oilers, the Panthers have a 3-2 series lead over Edmonton. Florida can clinch its second consecutive title as early as Tuesday, when it plays Game 6 on home ice at Amerant Bank Arena (8 p.m., TNT, truTV, Max).

Wade averaged 34.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists during the finals, winning MVP behind his strong efforts. He averaged 39.25 in the last four games of the series, effectively sweeping the Dallas Mavericks after falling behind by two games.
