House Democrats will hold a "Day of Action" across the country on Tuesday to push back against the GOP-backed spending bill to avert a government shutdown.

The bill puts significant pressure on Democrats in the Senate, whose votes will be needed in order to avoid a shutdown. The federal government runs out of money at the end of the day on Friday.

But far fewer Democrats joined Republicans to vote for the bill itself, which shifts some money towards President Donald Trump's priorities and increases his power over spending. Trump is expected to sign the measure Friday evening.
