Chelsea have completed the signing of striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town for a £30m fee. The 22-year-old has signed a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge after the Blues met a release clause in his Ipswich deal that was activated following their relegation from the Premier League.

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap in a £30million deal. The England Under-21 star established himself as one of the Premier League’s top young players last season, scoring 12 Premier League goals in 37 appearances as the Tractor Boys were relegated, triggering his cut-price release clause.

The transfer fee is a fairly reasonable £30m (certainly in today’s market), thanks to Delap’s relegation release clause. Ipswich were promoted last season, but were not able to stick the landing in the Premier League despite the 22-year-old striker’s dozen goals in the competition (in 37 appearances).
