A brutal murder captured on a TikTok live stream in Mexico is being investigated as a possible femicide, the killing of women or girls for reasons of gender, said a state prosecutor on Friday (May 16).

The influencer seems to be among many Mexican women whose murder briefly shocks the conscience only to recede into the background until the next gruesome crime happens.

A Mexican social media influencer was shot dead during a live stream on TikTok, where she had tens of thousands of followers, authorities said Wednesday.
