A person was found dead Thursday afternoon in a home in Aroma Park as cleanup and repairs continued after an EF-3 ripped through Kankakee County on Tuesday, leaving major damage.

At least 30 homes were destroyed and 500 buildings were impacted by the EF-3 tornado that barreled through Kankakee County Tuesday night, officials said.

A string of tornadoes touched down in multiple states as severe weather stretched from Texas to Michigan.

The Kankakee County Sheriff's Office confirmed at least one tornado touched down south of Kankakee, near the Kankakee Fairgrounds, on Tuesday evening.

The storms also produced exceptionally large hail. One 6-inch diameter hailstone measured in Kankakee, Illinois, may be considered for a new state record.
