Mayer learned he was heading to Boston for Game 2 of the doubleheader, but there was one problem: He couldn't find his keys.
The Red Sox are calling up heralded infield prospect Marcelo Mayer from Triple A Worcester. WooSox manager Chad Tracy told reporters in Worcester on Saturday that he’d delivered the news to the 22-year-old, whom Baseball America recently ranked as the game’s No. 9 prospect, before the team’s doubleheader at Polar Park.
Jhostynxon Garcia had another good night in his second game in Triple A, going 2-for-5 with a double. Tyler McDonough had a pair of doubles, and Mayer and Roman Anthony had a combined five walks atop the Worcester lineup.
