The YouTube sensation has proposed buying TikTok as a unique solution to stop the social platform from being banned in the U.S.

MrBeast suggests the possibility of buying TikTok to save being banned in the US, and a number of billionaires have contacted him about it.

It comes after Congress passed a law in April 2024 signed by President Joe Biden which gave ByteDance nine months to find a US-approved buyer. Congress described TikTok as “a national-security threat of immense depth and scale” amid concerns Amrican citizens’ data is being passed over to China.

As a result, President Joe Biden signed a law last year which demanded that ByteDance sell, or TikTok would be shut down in the US. The deadline to sell falls on 19 January - just one day before Donald Trump is set to be sworn in as the new president.

MrBeast stated he's willing to buy TikTok so it's not banned in the United States. The YouTuber, real name James Stephen "Jimmy" Donaldson, took to X formerly Twitter to make that declaration on Monday,

MrBeast is in talks to become the minority owner of TikTok amid the impending U.S. Ban on January 19th.

It's unlikely that Meek and MrBeast have the funds to buy TikTok, which has an estimated value of $300 billion . According to Google, MrBeast has an estimated net worth of $500 million . It's unknown what Meek's estimated net worth is.

If TikTok shuts down for all US users, the impact would differ from the legal requirements. The law stipulates banning only new downloads of TikTok from Apple or Google app stores, allowing existing users to continue accessing the app temporarily, according to Reuters.
