Tim Allen is no stranger to family sitcoms. He dominated the small screen for years with Home Improvement, followed by his long-running hit Last Man Standing and now he’s back in action with Shifting Gears,

Tim Allen stars as a curmudgeonly father and Kat Dennings as his estranged daughter in this ABC multicam sitcom that features some sociopolitical humor.

In his latest network outing, Allen plays a widower named Matt who owns a garage that specializes in classic cars. But, as ABC teases in its promotional material, his most difficult restoration project arrives when his daughter, Riley, who’s getting divorced, moves back home with his two grandkids in tow.

Kat Dennings said stepping onto the set with Tim Allen and the cast to make the new ABC sitcom Shifting Gears “was like a ’90s Mount Rushmore.” The show also stars Seann William Scott, who played Stifler in 1999’s American Pie,
