The National Hurricane Center's 5 a.m. Wednesday advisory reported that Tropical Storm Jerry is in the Atlantic Ocean, 890 miles east-southeast of the Northern Leeward Islands. The system, with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, is moving west-northwest at 23 mph.
The map showed coastal North Carolina and Virginia as facing the highest risk of tropical impacts. Should the storm stall off the coast of North Carolina, DaSilva said his biggest concerns are waves, rip currents, and coastal flooding along the southeast coast up through parts of the mid-Atlantic shoreline.
An area of low pressure in the central tropical Atlantic Ocean is expected to form as a tropical depression within the next day, becoming Tropical Storm Jerry not long after, forecasters said Tuesday morning.
Hurricane Priscilla has intensified into a Category 2 storm off the west coast of Mexico and is expected to keep getting stronger, possibly into a Category 3 before starting to weaken.
Tropical Storm Imelda may strengthen into a hurricane, with flooding risks from Florida to Virginia and highest threats along the Carolinas.
