WASHINGTON/MADRID, March 3 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose ⁠a ⁠full U.S. trade embargo on Spain on Tuesday after the ⁠European and NATO ally refused to let the U.S. military use its bases for missions linked to strikes on Iran.

Spain’s position on the use of U.S. bases in its territory marks the latest flare-up in its relationship with the Trump administration. Under Sánchez, Europe’s last major progressive leader, Spain was also an outspoken critic of Israel’s war in Gaza.

President Trump lashed out at Spain on Monday, saying that the U.S. would end trade with the European country after it said it wouldn’t allow the U.S. access to its bases as part of the Iran strikes.
