A 77-year-old Vermont man died on the I-95 in Florida after being struck during an attempted turtle rescue. Three others were uninjured in the chain-reaction crash.

A tragic scene unfolded Sunday afternoon on a Florida highway when an elderly man trying to save a turtle was struck and killed. According to multiple reports, the unidentified 77-year-old man from Vermont was traveling on I-95 in Indian River County when he spotted a turtle on the highway.

A 77-year-old man caused a two-vehicle crash and died on Interstate 95 while trying to help an animal that ventured onto the highway, Florida troopers said.
