A girl who was left with life-changing injuries in a dog attack is now stable in hospital, police have said. Officers confirmed the dog that attacked her was an XL bully which has now been destroyed. Gwent Police said she was being treated after an attack at a house in Nantyglo, Blaenau Gwent, on Monday evening.

The girl has been taken to hospital to treat her injuries after Gwent Police were called to Nantyglo on Monday evening.

Officers arrested 37-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman, both from the Brynmawr area, on suspicion of owning or possessing a dog bred for fighting and owning or possessing a dog dangerously out of control.

Police tape sealed off the raised walkway outside the house and lane running up the side of the house and garden on an estate in Nantyglo, in Blaenau Gwent on Tuesday morning. Gwent Police were called to the scene following reports of the attack on Monday evening.
