President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday publicly reacted to the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar by Israeli troops. In a statement released by the White House, Biden called Sinwar's death "a good day for Israel, for the United States, and for the world."

Sinwar, a U.S.-designated terrorist, is regarded as the architect of Hamas' Oct. 7, 2023, attacks on Israel. The death drew comparisons to the killing of Osama bin Laden.

Sinwar, the widely-recognized mastermind behind the Oct. 7 attack on Israel, was confirmed dead on Thursday, according to the Israeli military.

Pentagon officials said U.S. forces were not directly involved. With Sinwar dead, U.S. leaders said they are pressing forward with efforts to end the conflict.

Mr. Sinwar climbed the ranks of the Palestinian militant group to plot the deadliest attack on Israel in its history.
