DENVER (AP) — Nathan MacKinnon had two goals and an assist to reach 1,100 career points and the the Colorado Avalanche beat the Washington Capitals 5-2 on Monday. Parker Kelly, Victor Olofsson and Artturi Lehkonen also scored to help Colorado bounce back from a 7-3 loss to Nashville on Friday night — the Avalanche’s first home regulation loss of the season.
The Washington Capitals left no doubt that they can play with the New Jersey Devils. Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom each had a goal and two assists to help Washington beat the Devils, 4-1, giving the Capitals a one-point lead in the overall NHL standings.
