What was thought to be a brazen armed robbery​ in Brockton, Massachusetts last month may have been an inside job, police said.

"We directed no one to do anything improper or illegal," said Moises Rodrigues, who narrowly won Brockton's mayor's race, based on unofficial results.

A 19-year-old Brockton man has been sentenced after he was found to have shot a 16-year-old female in the face at an Easton apartment complex in January.

Following the sudden death of former mayor Bill Carpenter in July 2019, Rodrigues was elected by fellow city councilors to finish out the remaining several months of term. Though not duly elected, Rodrigues became the first non-white person to serve as Brockton mayor.
