TMTPOST -- Helsinki-listed Nokia Oyj shares finished around 20.9% higher to hit their highest close since late January 2016. The stock logged its biggest daily gain since 2013 after the Finnish telecom equipment maker reached an agreement with Nvidia Corp. to accelerate artificial intelligence (AI) networking transition.
Nokia and NVIDIA have announced a new partnership to develop AI-driven wireless network technology for the next generation of mobile connectivity. The deal includes a $1 billion investment from NVIDIA into Nokia at $6.
T-Mobile U.S. will collaborate with Nokia and NVIDIA to drive and test AI-RAN technologies as a part of the 6G innovation and development process, reinforcing its global leadership in driving wireless innovation. Trials are expected to begin in 2026, focused on field validation of performance and efficiency gains for customers.
The partnership comes with a $1 billion Nvidia investment in Nokia, which lifted the telecom company's shares more than 25 percent in the hours after the announcement. Nvidia has also recently announced investments in Intel ( $5 billion) and OpenAI ( $100 billion ). The GPU biz has a lot of spare change lying around.
"It's hard not to get sentimental and proud of America," Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said after a sizzle reel highlighting American innovation.
