A decade after the last state-sanctioned hunt had to be cut short because so many bears were killed, Florida says it’s time for another one.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commissioners voted 4-1 May 21 to have a black bear hunt for 23 days in December, but the measure must be voted on again in August to be finalized.

Black bears were listed as threatened in 2012, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission held an unpopular hunt in 2015.
