BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Jefferson County Coroner is investigating three deaths that UAB confirms were caused by hypothermia. The deaths have occurred in the past 24 hours as temperatures continue to plummet, highlighting the dangers faced by those without adequate shelter or warm environment.

The postmortem examinations aren't complete and could take at least six weeks to complete before an official cause of death is released for each case, the coroner said.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office is investigating three suspected cases of hypothermia deaths over the last 24 hours alone.

The autopsies are not complete and will take six to 8 weeks before a cause of death will be available, according to the coroner.
