New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell is facing federal wire fraud and conspiracy charges after being indicted this week along with a former member of her security detail.

Although the pair have said their relationship was strictly professional, the indictment described it as “personal and intimate.”

Prosecutors allege that in October 2021, Mayor LaToya Cantrell and Jeffrey Vappie, her bodyguard, developed a "personal, intimate relationship."
