Oil prices climbed in Asian trade Monday morning as escalating tensions in the U.S.-Iran conflict stoked concerns over potential supply disruptions in the Middle East.

Oil prices extended gains ‌on Monday as tit-for-tat strikes between the U.S. and Iran on vessels sailing in the Strait of Hormuz and other areas heightened concerns of a prolonged supply disruption from the Middle East.

Iran said it targeted three oil tankers using an unauthorized route through the Strait of Hormuz, as well as a number of US-linked ships, in retaliation for American attacks on Iranian tankers over the weekend.

A day after President Trump called the conflict with Iran “small potatoes,” U.S. forces struck multiple Iranian tankers. Iran says it’s striking back, aiming at three vessels tied to the U.S. The escalation in the Middle East comes as oil prices rise and the midterms move closer.

Advocacy group The Senior Citizens League’s latest estimate predicts the 2027 COLA will be 3.6%. The COLA was 2.8% in 2026, 2.5% in 2025, and 3.2% in 2024. It was 8.7% in 2023, as post-COVID inflation reached its peak.
