Nearly a month after the first reported case of measles in the South Plains, health officials have confirmed the first death due to the outbreak.
Texas Department of Health Services on Friday upped its measles count to 146 cases with 20 people hospitalized. A school-age child died from the highly contagious virus this week. That child was not vaccinated. Most of the cases are in and around Gaines County in West Texas, not far from Lubbock and the Panhandle.
