A child’s death this past week in Texas is the first U.S. death from measles, a highly contagious but preventable respiratory disease since 2015, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease
Texas Department of Health Services on Friday upped its measles count to 146 cases with 20 people hospitalized. A school-age child died from the highly contagious virus this week. That child was not vaccinated. Most of the cases are in and around Gaines County in West Texas, not far from Lubbock and the Panhandle.
