German Chancellor Friedrich Merz says Germany will not authorize exports of military equipment that could be used in Gaza “until further notice.”

The move followed weeks of debate over reports of hunger in Gaza, but it was precipitated by Israel’s decision to expand military operations there.

The U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, said “this further escalation will result in more killing, more unbearable suffering, senseless destruction."
