A vehicle struck a utility pole Tuesday afternoon on Route 1 in Middlesex County after side swiping another car, police said. The pole was snapped in two, leaving live wires strewn across the highway.

The crash happened around 8:16 a.m. near Pine Avenue, just east of the Turnpike.
