A junkyard fire in Camden, New Jersey was brought under control more than six hours after it broke out Friday evening, officials said. Smoke from the fire was visible across the region including in Philadelphia and around South Jersey.

Camden city officials continued to monitor air quality following the blaze and have urged some residents to shelter in place.

A massive fire sent black smoke billowing from a Camden scrap yard on Friday evening, stirring concerns over air quality in the city and nearby communities. The four-alarm blaze began at approximately 5 p.m. at an EMR metals-recycling facility on the 1400 block of South Front Street, according to Camden Fire Chief Jesse Flax.
