Technically, the New York City Marathon finish line each year closes at 10 p.m., and this year’s race saw a record-breaking 59,226 competitors log official times to make it the largest marathon ever. But the cutoff doesn’t mean the Big Apple party stops before the last person out on the course completes the full journey through the five boroughs.

It was championship racing at its best, as Benson Kipruto beat Alexander Mutiso by less than a second and Hellen Obiri set a course record.

Benson Kipruto (in the closest men's elite finish in race history) and Hellen Obiri led Kenyan podium sweeps of the New York City Marathon. Kipruto held off charging countryman Alexander Mutiso by an unofficial three hundredths of a second after 26.2 miles on the roads.

It took a photo finish to determine the men's winner of the 2025 New York City Marathon. Despite posting the same finishing time, Kenyan Benson Kipruto narrowly beat out country-mate Alexander Mutiso Munyao to win the event. Both runners finished with a time of 2:08:09, with Kipruto finishing .16 seconds before Munyao.

In his first New York City Marathon, and in perhaps his final marathon as a pro, Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya placed 17th in 2:14:36 at today’s New York City Marathon. Kipchoge, who turns 41 on Wednesday, lost touch with the lead pack during the 16th mile.

When Ali Truwit crossed the finish line at the Copenhagen Marathon in 2023, she couldn’t have imagined how hard it would be to run the 26.2-mile distance again.

Scott Warmbrand, 52, of Mastic, overcame strokes suffered in 2022, and a cancer diagnosis 20 years ago couldn't keep Michael Sorrentino, 56, of Freeport, off the course.

"Stranger Things" star Millie Bobby Brown filed a lengthy complaint against co-star David Harbour ahead of filming the show's fifth season, the Daily Mail reported. Brown, who plays Eleven/Jane Hopper on the hit Netflix series, was said to have included "pages and pages" of accusations.
