Phillies third baseman Edmundo Sosa left Saturday’s win over the Yankees following a collision with outfielder Brandon Marsh while catching a popup. According to the team, Sosa suffered a back contusion and will be evaluated further.

It hasn’t been easy for the Yankees since the All-Star break. They split the first six games, and they left Toronto on Wednesday with a bad taste in their mouths because they didn’t gain any ground on the first-place Blue Jays in the American League East race.

The Phillies got a 9-4 win Saturday as the reeling Yankees awaited test rests on the right elbow of captain Aaron Judge.

After the bullpen gave up 10 earned runs in a 12–5 loss, the team optioned right-hander Scott Effross and infielder Jorbit Vivas to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, opening two roster spots ahead of Saturday’s game at Yankee Stadium.

The Phillies blew it open in the seventh. Edmundo Sosa - who was later involved in an ugly collision with Brandon Marsh on a pop up - hit a two-run home run to make it 7-1, and then Kyle Schwarber (5-10 with six RBIs in the series) added a two-run double to push the lead to 9-1.
