Ohio’s sales tax holiday kicks off Friday, but some local experts say the savings might not be as big as you think. From August 1-14, shoppers can purchase items tax free throughout the state of Ohio.

In 2024, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and the Ohio General Assembly expanded the sales tax holiday to include more items and run longer. That trend will continue this year, with the holiday applying to tax-free purchases made in-person or online on all eligible items of up to $500.

The 2025 holiday will run for two full weeks, beginning at midnight on Friday, August 1, and ending at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, August 14.
