The Buckeyes will host Texas, the No. 1 seed in the AP Poll that was released on Monday. Ohio State was rated No. 3 behind Penn State. But while the Buckeyes were not given No. 1 status, even as defending champions, they’ll still enter the star-studded Aug. 30 matchup against the Longhorns as favorites.

Texas and Ohio State received the No. 1 and No. 3 rankings in the AP Top 25 preseason poll, with Penn State sandwiched between them at No. 2.

For the first time, Texas will open a college football season ranked No. 1 in The Associated Press Top 25. The Longhorns hardly have a mandate in the poll released Monday: They edged out Penn State by just five points in the closest preseason vote since 1998.
