Many people in and around Central Illinois are hitting the highways for the Fourth of July weekend, so IDOT and AAA are pushing for safety on the busy streets.

Independence Day celebrations have kicked-off across the Commonwealth, and for many that means hitting the road for a well-deserved vacation.

According to the American Automobile Association, it's anticipated that more people will be traveling around the United States by car over the Independence Day holiday than ever before.
