In a major incident, the Volkswagen Group has suffered a massive data breach, one that has affected as many as 800,000 electric vehicle (EV) owners, according to German publication Spiegel. The leaked data contained sensitive information like GPS coordinates and battery charge levels.

Data on 800,000 VW electric cars sat exposed for months, including the precise location of nearly 460,000 EVs. It does not appear that any of that info was accessed by bad actors, though.

Cariad, Volkswagen's automotive software company, experienced a significant cybersecurity breach. This is an issue of growing concern within the automotive industry.
