Colombians mourned Miguel Uribe, 39, an opposition senator and presidential hopeful who died after being shot at a political rally two months ago.

The family of Miguel Uribe Turbay said the politician died at a hospital in the capital, Bogota. Uribe, 39, was shot three times, twice in the head, while giving a campaign speech in a park and had since remained in an intensive care unit in serious condition with episodes of slight improvement.

Miguel Uribe, the Colombian senator who had been hospitalized since he was shot in the head in June during a campaign event, has died, his family said Monday. He was 39.
