Simon, standing at 5’8” and 150 pounds, was signed by the Marlins this winter to a Minor League contract after a solid campaign in AAA Durham with the Tampa Bay Rays organization. In 130 games last season, the 25-year-old middle infielder and corner outfielder slashed .283/.356/.429 and had a .785 OPS with 10 homers and 56 RBI.

The Pirates were off Monday but the front office made a move, claiming infielder-outfielder Ronny Simon from the Miami Marlins.

Simón, 25, got his first major league call just over a month ago. The Marlins selected his contract on April 20th and he stuck on the roster until he was designated for assignment on May 30th. He got into 19 games and stepped to the plate 56 times, producing a batting line of .234/.327/.277.
