As celebratory music poured out of the Washington Capitals’ dressing room at Prudential Center, captain Alex Ovechkin leaned against a wall and offered a simple explanation for winger Tom Wilson’s strong start.

The Washington Capitals won their second game of the season and handed the Dallas Stars their first loss by winning a close contest, 3-2. The Stars opened the scoring in the first period thanks to a goal by Colin Blackwell.

Tom Wilson scored the Caps’ first goal and their last goal of Saturday’s game against the Devils in New Jersey, lifting Washington to its third consecutive victory, a 6-5 overtime win in a barnburner of a hockey game.
