Virginia State Police: Plane crash in Albemarle County being investigated

ALBEMARLE COUNTY — Virginia State Police are investigating a small plane crash that occurred Saturday at approximately 12:51 p.m. in a wooded area off of Monacan Drive East in Albemarle County. There is one reported fatality. State police are in the process of notifying next of kin. The flight originated from Rockingham, North Carolina.

Amber Alert issued for 12-year-old boy from Virginia, believed to be in ‘extreme danger’

Virginia State Police and the Virginia Missing Children Clearinghouse have issued an AMBER Alert for Juan Sebastian Mejia Acevedo. Virginia Beach City Police say Acevedo was abducted Jan. 24, 2025, at about 9 a.m. They believe the boy is in “extreme danger” and they don’t know who took him.

According to the alert notice, Acevedo was abducted at 9 a.m. Friday and was last seen in the 200 block of Mica Avenue in Virginia Beach. That’s part of a large apartment complex in the Kempsville area of the city, west of Holland Road and south of Interstate 264.
