Edgecombe averaged 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.1 steals playing for the Bears in the 2024-25 season. He will now look to bring his all-around game to the city of Philadelphia and help the Sixers bounce back from a tough season.

NEW YORK — The Philadelphia 76ers selected Baylor freshman guard VJ Edgecombe with the third overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft on Wednesday night. The 19-year-old Edgecombe had an outstanding season for the Bears, averaging 15 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.

A national television audience caught Edgecombe’s hands in a prayer position upon (finally) hearing his name called, and the hug with his mother. He missed the Bahamian flags that peppered the crowd inside the arena bowl, because he was too concentrated on not falling as he walked up the stairs to the stage.
