The “Omphalos” at Monte d’Accoddi (near Sassari, Sardinia) is a large worked spheroidal stone. It was found displaced outside the east wall of the archaeological area (not in its original position), and its surface shows small pitting from being finished with a stone hammer; a smaller similar stone was found nearby. It’s generally associated with the monument’s Late Neolithic use (roughly 3200–2700 BC), so it’s around 5,000–5,500 years old. #ancienthistory #history #archaeology #historylovers #a
