Yellowstone is the only place in the U.S. where bison, also known as American buffalo, have continuously lived since prehistoric times – but at one point, nearly all the bison were exterminated as part of the U.S. government's effort to push Indigenous populations off Native lands. Now, Native Americans are fighting to bring those populations back so their grandchildren can witness what their ancestors did.
